REDUCING PR COSTS WHILE MAINTAINING QUALITY COVERAGE

SITUATION:  The costs for public relations services, provided by a large external PR agency, were mounting at a “Big Four” accounting firm. The pressure to reduce these costs was also mounting.

APPROACH:  Fireworks Communications identified a number of cost-saving measures and led the change, while maintaining quality media relations services to the firm.

  • Opted for project work rather than an annual contract with the PR agency
     

  • Developed connections with local college Public Relations programs, hiring students from Humber and Seneca Colleges on an honorarium
     

  • Brought research tools and media monitoring in-house, using Google Alerts and RSS feeds


RESULTS:  Fireworks Communications reduced public relations costs at the “Big Four” accounting firm by 50%, while maintaining exceptional public relations support to 10 national programs.
